Urban Technology Alliance

Urban Technology Alliance (UTA) is an international nonprofit organization dedicated to urban innovation and smart cities. It supports local governments, businesses, researchers, and public sector stakeholders in experimenting with, testing, and validating innovative solutions on a real-world scale, with the aim of accelerating their digital and sustainable transformation. https://urbantechnologyalliance.org/

Summary

The goal of the Urban Technology Alliance (UTA) redesign was to transform an aging static website into a modern, dynamic, and scalable platform dedicated to urban innovation. The new architecture connects cities, innovators, solutions, and pilot projects within a single digital ecosystem, making it easier to navigate the site, discover content, and connect the various stakeholders in the network.

Goals

  • Modernize the brand image and user experience.
  • Structure the UTA ecosystem around a centralized, scalable database.
  • To facilitate connections between cities, challenges, innovators, solutions and pilot projects.
  • Automate content management and display using a dynamic architecture.
  • To provide a clear, intuitive and scalable platform to support the network’s growth.

Achievements

  • Complete UX/UI redesign and art direction.
  • WordPress development with JetEngine.
  • Creation of a dynamic architecture (CPT, relations and templates).
  • Integration and organisation of content.
  • Implementation of filters, dynamic forms and interactive maps.
  • SEO optimisation, performance and security.
  • Documentation and support.

Dynamic ecosystem architecture

I designed the site’s entire data architecture to create intelligent links between the various stakeholders in the ecosystem: Cities, Innovators, Solutions, Pilot Projects and Challenges. Each entry is dynamically linked to the other entities. A city can therefore automatically display its pilot projects, the solutions deployed and the innovators involved. This approach ensures simplified content management whilst offering a rich and consistent user experience.

Dynamic content and linked resources

I have developed dynamic page templates for each type of content: Cities, Challenges, Innovators, Solutions and Pilots. Thanks to this architecture, all the associated information is displayed automatically based on the custom data fields defined in the database. This approach ensures the consistency of the content whilst making it easier to update.

Dynamic maps, calendars and forms

I have implemented interactive features designed to enhance the exploration of the UTA ecosystem. Dynamic maps provide a clear visualisation of the stakeholders and their interactions, whilst the calendar allows events related to urban innovation to be centralised and organised. I developed fully dynamic forms, integrated into the site’s architecture, to facilitate contact and the collection of registrations.

Before / After

To illustrate the transformation, a number of before-and-after comparisons highlight how the site has evolved. The new platform features a modernised visual identity, simplified navigation and a dynamic architecture that enables much more efficient management of content and relationships between the various stakeholders within the alliance.
